Wow, this blog has slipped off my radar!
Barking Dog Vineyard is still doing very well. I've leased different portions of the farm to different farmers who are doing some excellent work. This spring has been perfect for the vines, they are thriving and even beginning to flower - this could be a super year for grapes!
It's definitely been a super year for me so far: I've been elected to the BC Legislature. I'm now pouring all my energy into this new work and am not actively farming. You can catch up with me at www.lanapopham.ca
If you are looking for information on the vineyard, please check back as I am trying to coax one of the farmers out of the field once in a while so he can update this blog and be a contact person.
All the best,
Lana

One brix short of a load.....but that's okay.
We harvested the whites this Thanksgiving weekend. It was a great day and we enjoyed the harvest we were dreading. The grapes came in looking just fine and the Brix are manageable. We measured a combined total of 19 Brix. The 2007 vintage will be a refreshing, crisp, taste of the Island. We are known for our cool, fresh, delightful whites and this year will not disappoint. Crush has begun! This season will be one that grape growers on the Island will be glad to say goodbye to.
Cheers to next season!

Ugh...what a season.
This has been a very bad season for growing grapes. We have had so much rain and we have not had enough sun to bring the brix (sugars) up. It is almost Thanksgiving weekend and we are holding off picking to see if we can get a little bit of sun. The grapes are barely hanging on. The disease threat is heavy and it is a race to the finish line......Who will win?
Will mother nature claim her bounty or will she let us share it with her? We will see...
Check in to see how the harvest went!
